Auroralites is making available a slow rate blinking collar. I know. The FAQs page trashes the concept and especially warns of a FAST blink or strobe as being useless for safety and possibly dangerous for dogs (or people) with neurological disorders. The collars being introduced now have a very slow blink rate of approximately 1 second on and 1 second off. This is slow enough that it can not trigger seizures however an oncoming driver will have a more difficult time determining speed, direction or distance of the lamp. This is still better than no light or reflective material that only begins to work when the dog enters the "kill-zone" of the headlights.

The fact is not ALL K9 handlers want their dog to be seen ALL the time so it should be noted that these collars are specifically designed for working dogs where knowing their location is crucial. The blinking collars provide two advantages for working dogs in a possibly hostile area. First off they do not afford a steady target and secondly the collar uses half the power over a similar time period as a steady on collar. This allows for hunting dogs to be lit up the next night too if they become lost or separated late in the day. Warehouse and large building checks are especially dangerous for dogs and this new collar provides the safety of allowing the handler to know the rough location of his off lead partner while not making him an easy target.

**NOTE** The collar should not even go on a working dog (let alone turned on) in a situation where the handler is aware or suspects the target person(s) may be armed .

All other aspects of the collars are the same as the steady-on collars. Sizes, lamp material and color etc. are identical. The blinking power inverters are available for the collars and the Tracking Harnesses for an additional $4.00.
